The Kaspersky logo
The improved logo
Kaspersky Lab logo is the logo I choose to improve. In the beginning process of the logo redesign, I was confused about how to improve the design of Kaspersky logo. So I sketch a bunch of designs blindly.
Then I finally realized what went wrong with my designs. My designs does not have meaning like other good logos does. Therefore I started to seek meaning on my design.
In order to define my logo meanings, i need to know what the original logo means; so I asked my self three questions: what is the original logo means? what does this logo lack of? How can I improve the logo? I looked up online, see what the Kaspersky website looks like. Then I analyse the logo deeply try to get some information out of it.
Kaspersky logo formed by a V and a right down ARROW key together, as K. As a single V, I think it stands for virus, with the red color stands for alert or emergency. The down arrow key may stands for suppress or expel. The color they use for this logo is dark green, red and black; it is complementary color. red for alert and dark green color is the virus’s color.
After I understand the meaning of the Kaspersky logo. I start to think about what is this logo lacking of. The first thing I can think of about this symbolic logo, is not representative enough. The only meaning of this logo is the K stand for Kaspersky, but I don’k think it is not representative for a anti-virus application.
Now I finally know what is lack of this logo, and it brings me to the third question: How can I improve the logo? I start to search for all the logos that is representative for anti virus app. I discovered that the shield shape is the most famous shape for a anti-virus software. Also a wall shape, a cross shape, a lock shape. All of those shapes are stand for secure and safety.
Different anti-virus app logos
Technological Version for Kaspersky, Also suggested use the background as a new package design.
In the color decision, I decided to use the original red and white/black as the logo itself. On the background, I changed the color’s shade a little bit brighter and lighter. The reason I did so, is because the original logo’s background color (dark green) was too bulky, also gives people a sense of sickness. The new light green will give people a sense of nature, of refresh.
Color for Kaspersky new logo
My improvement on the logo is minor, but meaningful. I simply deleted half of the down arrow key. This minor change has make the logo become a umbrella shape, but the K word for Kaspersky remains. The representative for anti-virus is umbrella. Umbrella is made for preventing people from getting rain, in computer’s world, it simply means to prevent computer from getting virus. In the coloring process, I will remain the same. However, its possible to change the green background into grey and slowly change the tone of it, as well as the red color on the V; it will made the logo more technical form.
